Affleck served as an executive producer for the forthcoming musical, ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck made an unexpected reunion on the New York City red carpet at the premiere of Kiss of the Spider-Woman on Monday evening, October 6.
Lopez, 56, stars in the film, while Affleck, 53, serves as an executive producer through his production company, Artist Equity, which he co-founded with his friend, actor Matt Damon.
The former couple appeared all smiles as they chatted for the cameras, while Affleck spoke to the press about the project. Lopez was keen to thank him during her pre-screening remarks, saying:
“Thank you, Ben. This film would not have happened without you and Artist Equity.”
She added: “When I first read the script, it felt like a dream come true singing, dancing, acting, and everything that makes me feel like a star from the golden age of cinema.”
For the occasion, Lopez chose a lavish gown from Harris Reed’s Spring 2026 collection.
This joint appearance comes after their split in 2025. They had been dating since 2002, but their engagement ended in 2004. They reunited in 2021, married in 2022, and separated two years later.
Despite the divorce, Lopez expressed her appreciation for Affleck’s role in making the film happen, saying in an interview with the Today show:
“Without Ben, this film would not have been made, and I will always be grateful to him for that.”
She added that working on the film helped her overcome a difficult period in her life:
“The film is about how art can save us in our most difficult moments. This project was truly healing for me.”
In another interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, she revealed the difficulty of that period, saying:
“Every day on set was filled with joy, but going home was painful. I was always trying to find the balance between joy and sadness.”
Directed by Bill Condon (Chicago), the film is a reboot of the classic musical of the same name, based on the 1976 novel by Manuel Puig. Lopez stars alongside Diego Luna and Tonatiuh, portraying Ingrid Luna, an icon of early cinema.
Lopez, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon are co-producing the film, which is scheduled for release on October 10.
