Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman revealed the 98th Academy Awards nominations for the best films and performances of the year.
Recent weeks have seen major Hollywood movies waging one battle after another leading up to the nominations for the 2026 Oscars, and the big announcement is finally here.
Revealed Thursday morning by Academy Award-nominated Color Purple star Danielle Brooks and Emmy nominee Lewis Pullman, the 2026 Oscar nominations fall amid a contentious awards season that has seen major contenders enter — and bow out of — the race at large in recent weeks.
From early box office hits (Sinners) sustaining through the year to underground critical darlings (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You star Rose Byrne) generating major heat at recent awards shows like the Golden Globes, nominees trickled into the race from all corners of the movie industry.
Now, the Academy has unveiled the best films and performances of the year among its latest round of Oscar nominations, with Ryan Coogler‘s aforementioned vampire blockbuster Sinners shattering the record for most nominations for a single film in history, with 16 total.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest thriller One Battle After Another also dominated with multiple nominations, including for Best Picture, Best Director, and for most of its core cast (including Leonardo DiCaprio, Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn, and Teyana Taylor).
Chloé Zhao‘s emotional historical drama Hamnet and Best Actor frontrunner Timothée Chalamet‘s lauded performance at the center of Marty Supreme also scored major nominations from the Academy, though fan-favorite sequel Wicked: For Good (including stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo) were entirely shut out of the nominations list.
In January, the Golden Globes helped amp up the race to the Oscars, with Chalamet, Byrne, Taylor, Stellan Skarsgård (Sentimental Value), Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent) all winning key acting awards ahead of Academy Award nominations.

As previously announced, the Academy bestowed special awards upon several Hollywood professionals.
Industry icon Dolly Parton accepted her Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award via video message at last year’s Governors Awards, for her career dedication to philanthropic efforts with the Dollywood Foundation and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which has given around 285 million books to children.

Actor Tom Cruise, actress and choreographer Debbie Allen, and production designer Wynn Thomas also received Academy Honorary Awards for their careers in Hollywood as well.
The 2026 Oscars, hosted by returning comedian Conan O’Brien, air March 15 on ABC. See the full list of nominees for the 98th Academy Awards below.
