Selena Gomez Turned to Nostalgia (and Benny Blanco, Of Course!) in Rare Brand Collab with Oreo (Exclusive)

Selena Gomez wants to make sure the flavors sing in her limited-edition Oreo cookies.

Some Sources reveal that the singer-actress, 32, is partnering with the iconic snack brand to bring fans a sandwich cookie inspired by her childhood.

The Only Murders In The Building star spoke about why she chose to work with Oreo despite sparingly collaborating with brands and how the sentimental flavor came to be.

“I am selective when deciding to partner with brands because it always needs to be something authentic to me,” the Rare Beauty founder said, explaining that she felt a loyalty to Oreo. “Like most people, I’ve loved Oreo cookies for as long as I can remember and so when I was approached to collaborate on my own flavor it was something I couldn’t say no to doing.” She added that the cookies are a new way to “engage with [her] fans” in a way that “felt different from anything [she’d] done in the past.”

The special cookies come with six embossments related to Gomez, even one that says “Selenators” or another that has her signature. Each treat takes a layer of chocolate and cinnamon cream and a layer of sweetened condensed milk cream and sandwiches them with chocolate cinnamon-flavored wafers. Each bite should taste like a sip of horchata, a Mexican beverage made with milk, ground rice and cinnamon that is “very personal” to the “Sunset Blvd” singer. “Even if you’ve never had horchata it was my goal to ignite a sense of familiarity when someone takes a bite,” she said.

“Growing up, horchata was one of those comforting things for me. Some of my favorite childhood memories involve drinking horchata with my family it was one of my favorite drinks. I really wanted to bottle up that memory and share it through this cookie,” Gomez said, asking that fans don’t skip out on one important step. “And trust me, it tastes even better dipped in milk. That really brings all the flavors together.”

When reflecting on the cookie-making process, Gomez recalled the taste-testing as “the best part.” “I took it very seriously,” she promised. “Going back and forth getting the just flavors just right, not too much cinnamon but not too little condensed milk. I wanted it to be perfect.”

The final cookie came to fruition with the help of her fiancé, music producer Benny Blanco. “Benny was definitely around for some of the tasting! He loves the final result, too,” she said of the cookbook author.

The cookies aren’t the only sweet part of this partnership. Oreo is donating to Gomez’s Rare Impact Fund, an organization she founded in 2020 that connects young people to mental health resources. “For me, this is the most important part of partnering with Oreo,” she said, hoping that the collaboration will help the organization to reach its goal of raising $100 million.

The Selena Gomez limited-edition Oreo cookies are available for presale online starting on June 2. Fans nationwide can grab the treats at retailers starting on June 9.
